This digital artwork, dubbed “Angelic Aid”, is a commentary on angelic presence in the physical realm. God’s promise to us, to never leave us nor forsake us, encompasses not just the giving of the Holy Spirit but also assistance from His angelic host. This photo was deliberately captured slanted to show parallelism between the physical and the spiritual realm; both operating simultaneously and interacting on different levels. The model standing on one leg represents the role of angels in maintaining the balance in both realms. The piece conveys peace, stillness and balance in a chaotic universe.
I chose the digital manipulation route because it is an underrated art-form. The piece was completed using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. A number of elements were added to the original photograph to create the final artwork. The aim being to take a common perception (i.e. how angels are commonly depicted) and transfer an important reminder that we are not alone in this fight. We have Angelic Aid.
"For we battle not against flesh and blood…”
On May 2, I woke up at 2:30 a.m. from a demonic dream, meddled with references of witchcraft. I had done this art piece a month before and, in the wee hours of the morning, God finally sent me the words I should attach to this submission. The words I have been so desperately seeking.
I have always been fascinated with the spiritual realm. My pastor once told me that the Spiritual World is more active than our physical world and that the highway of hell is clogged with souls traversing on the broad road. There is a realm where devils and angels are in constant battle. “Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon and his angels fought back.” Rev 12: 7
We cannot see this ongoing battle, but we feel the effects of it; In our dreams, in our thoughts and in the occurrences of life. The message of Ephesians 6: 10-20 is, what we would call in Jamaica, the ‘bread and butter” of the Christian walk. It is the recipe for arming one’s self against forces we cannot see but feel. This is not a fleshly fight. We cannot use guns, swords or knifes. God gave us Spiritual Help for a Spiritual War. It can be scary fighting an invisible enemy, but God did not leave us alone in this. Not only has He given us His Son and His Spirit, but He has emptied heaven to give us angelic support in this spiritual battle. “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91: 11-12. This digital manipulation encapsulates angelic presence in the whole scheme of things. Having girded the whole Armor of God, we have additional support from these beings to help us in the fight. The book of Hebrews poses the fact in the form of a question. “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews 1:14. We would not be able to inherit the Kingdom of God if it was left to us. When the Word charges us to be strong, it never makes reference to our own strength. We must be strong in the Lord, in the confidence that He has endowed us with strength in the form of His Spirit, His Son and His Angels.
