This work was created from a series of photographs and paints to form a multilayered piece of art. I also use a ton of light and shadows to create abstract shapes and depth.
"Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him."
This painting was inspired by the War in Heaven passage and the Rapture, with themes of spiritual ascension and dissension. The flames of the old world rising up and the ashes and embers from the dying planet dispersing and falling to Earth represent the spiritual battle in all of us; where we rise and fall day to day, until we ascend the mountain and make contact with the sky. It's an event that transcends time and space. I find a strange kind of beauty in the face of desolation, like a different state of being, that no words can fathom, so the best way I can describe it is through visualization.
