Artist Statement

I got inspiration of this drawing from the Black Lives Matter Movement. Viewing my artwork everyday reminds me how powerful God is in creating each one of us and that he has given us the gift of creativity. Viewing my artwork everyday reminds me also how powerful the Bible is, since it is considered the Book of Life. My drawings are derived from scriptures of the Bible. I used Staedtler colored pencils and Strathmore 9 in. x 12 in. drawing paper for this drawing.

How it fits into contest

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
Ephesians 6:11.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Ephesians 6:16.

This drawing exhibits how God protects us from evildoers in this world. The representation of this drawing shows how an African American little girl, who has virtiligo, along with 12 fingers & 12 toes puts on the full armor of God, represented by the canopy and shaft of the umbrella, to take her stand against the devil’s schemes. The devil schemes are represented by women with red lips, men with mustaches above their lips, and children with neutral color lips each having snake tongues, raining down with evilness from their mouths. The day has come for the African American little girl to stand her ground and protect herself from evil, which is represented by the canopy and shaft of the umbrella, after she had done all that she can to stand up to the snake lips. In addition, the African American little girl takes up the shield of faith, represented by holding the handle of the umbrella, with which she is extinguishing all of the flaming arrows of the women, men, and children with snake lips.
