Artist Statement

Acrylic on wood.

I started this piece, as a live painting while ministering in dance. In the days that followed,I found myself captivated by the urgency to pour out what was in my spirit as the process of painting this piece ministered deeply to me. Tapping in the awe of God the author of possibility that created me to create and my response to him. What I aimed to capture was the movement and depths of the Spirit that shape the universe even beyond this realm.

An Inquiry of Void (A reflection on the piece)

Amidst a black void there is a flooding energy, its radiance unmistakable and it's fount unknown. How could something so invasive, but oh so very gentle. How could something contrast yet be in complete harmony? How could movement exist in a snapshot of time? What if the ‘void’ was never really a void but the canvas to support what could be?

For who is the creator and what is the creation but one and the same. It is said, that creativity is the very nature of God inside of you. If the essences of who made you dwells within you, the very process of creation through you, is a deposit of this essence and energy. A cycle with no end or an evolution of possibility? How is this even possible and from whose perspective? Is creation simply a reflection of the creator? Can a source of light be void of light itself? Is it what really is or what is seen? So many elements yet one picture. Mysteries so intricately embedded in the depths of this void. What more lies beyond the four sides of this containment. Could it be the capability to perceive it?

At what point does creation create? Does creation have a voice? Does her voice have the power to will elements into being? Oh! the ‘void’ is so much more than a canvas but a chest of elements and mysteries anxiously waiting to evolve into possibilities. Of all the stars glittered across the galaxy, what inspired the ones who came together, for the purpose now seen? Is it that the ‘creation became creator’, saw something that the others did not? What if there was an invitation to this revelation? Could it be that the creation becomes a creator only when she accepts this invitation? What if creation made a request for this revelation? There are realms that only vision can unlock.

What do you see? Pigment on wood or access to a revelation much greater. From where do you see and perceive? How do you respond? Is your response an inquiry of the creator or the creation or both? An exploration? An eruption of adoration? Genuine awe or a thoughtful reflection? From where do you respond? What do you inquire? From who or where do you inquire?

How it fits into contest

The spiritual warfare concerning this realm has everything to do with the intentionality of a God who crafted us in soul to be his own, priceless. The knowledge of God and self are essential to victory. This Painting serves as a reminder that complete surrender and focus on God is our true source of strength and peace within this Spiritual Battle.

Psalm 91:1-2 (AMP)
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”.”

Ephesians 6:10 (AMP)
In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might.
