Title

Take Away the Noise

Artist Statement

I wrote this song as I was trying to juggle many things in my life, music career, homeschool, worship leader job, and graphic design work. It all seemed impossible and I was overwhelmed. I realized the enemy uses distractions (some good) to get us away from spending time with the Lord. I longed to spend time in prayer and in His word and the distractions kept coming. So the song is essentially a prayer for God to take away the excess "noise" in my life. It is a depiction of a journey, a spiritual battle against the enemy's distractions and words that accuse me telling me I can't. The setting is symbolic; the wilderness with lots of sticker bushes and weeds, sometimes no path to be found. The kids represent myself in search of a path that will lead me to "green pastures." They struggle through weeds and confusion until they find each other and continue on the journey together. That is symbolic of me finding the Lord and he walks with me and guides me to an oasis.

How it fits into contest

As the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, he can distract us from our real purpose in Christ who strengthens us. The battle is not about the stuff cluttering up our lives but rather, the enemy is trying to keep us from relationship with Jesus by "noise." Whether the noise be too much stuff in our lives or media news (like during this pandemic) and all their different voices trying to get our attention, all these things keep us in fear and lead us into our own demise while we lose sight of our identity in Christ. My song is a prayer for God to take away the "noise" or stuff so I can live in His purpose for my life.

Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Ephesians 6:12 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."
2 Corinthians 12:9 "“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."

Transcript / Lyrics

(Verse 1)
Weary, surrounded, clutter everywhere
I'm tired of juggling these burdens that I bear
You say come to me I will give you rest
Your power made perfect in my weakness

(Pre-chorus)
So many things want to take you away from me
I have to let them go because You are my identity

(Chorus)
Take away the noise
So I can listen to your voice
Take Away the distractions
That keep me from Your action
Teach me how to see a world that's beyond me
I just want to hear Your voice
Take away the noise

(Verse 2)
Spinning, searching, a fog is in the air
It's lifting, revealing Your graciousness and care
I'm hungering for words that hold the truth
I want to live with purpose all for You

(Pre-chorus, Chorus)

(Bridge)
Take away the noise,
I want to live for Your joy
Nothing in this world could ever be a greater voice
Take away the noise
I want to live for Your joy
Nothing in this world will ever be a greater voice

(Chorus)
(Chorus)
