Artist bio

Angel Ashleigh was born an artist. Painting as early as two years old, it was only a matter of time before her imagination took flight to create a masterpiece. Angel is self taught and specializes in drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her work has been displayed in several shows across three states and has taken several awards. Her body of work includes well over a hundred pieces at this point in time. Starting her artistic journey in Tennessee and later continuing on in Florida, she is heavily influenced by the mountains and ocean she once called home. Angel took a brief hiatus from her work during 2018-2020 after a difficult divorce that led to homelessness, but has since returned to pursuing her art career full time with new fervor. A 28 year old Oklahoma resident, Angel is a full time Christian artist, art teacher, and homeschooling mother of four.

Prayers of a Mother

Mixed Media

Artist Statement

To every mama in the black community: As a mother, I know firsthand what it's like to pour love and prayer into your children ceaselessly. But as a white woman, I will never know the prayers that you pray for your children. For their safety. For their lives. For them to be seen as human beings and equal members of society instead of "less than." I will never have to fear every time my children leave the house that they won't return simply because someone hated them for their skin tone.

I will always fear for my kids and worry about their safety, but not in the same way that you do. My heart breaks for this heavy burden that you carry and the reality that you face.

So in this trying time, let this be a reminder that God sees you, mama. He catches every tear and hears every prayer like an arrow piercing straight into His heart.
I commend you. I honor you. I pray for you. And I stand beside you as an ally in this war against racism.

Keep lifting your children up in prayer. Keep covering them in the blood of Jesus each and every day. Keep fighting for them. Your prayers do not fall on deaf ears.

I'm convinced that no earthly thing will ever be as powerful as a praying mama. You are all warriors. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places." Ephesians 6:12 AMP
