Artist bio

Indigenous artist and resident of West Columbia, South Carolina, Trudith Dyer, emerged on the art scene in 2018 after retiring from a teaching career in middle school mathematics. Additional exhibits include; Indigenous Women art exhibit Sisters are Sacred featuring South Carolina female artists and South Carolina Indian Affairs Commission Conference. A third endeavor has been added to Trudith's goals after she became a member of Engage Art which is to grown in faith studying scripture and interpreting verses into biblical art.

Artist Statement

In the years leading up to the 2019 election and shortly after many of us were in conflict with one another. You would see brother against brother, sister against sister and family against family. It was truly a time of hate and Satan was in his glory.
If you did not keep your eyes straight ahead and focus on righteousness (Proverbs) you could get pulled into this fiery hate as I did. That fiery dart waged a spiritual battle inside of me for 3 months but as I painted and changed this work many times my relationship with our Father changed and I realized what Ephesians 6:10-20 meant to me.
This wordless portrait of God’s warrior speaks to you through the moments of sadness, confusion, heartbreak and redemption when the Shield of Faith is lowered. It is then the serpent's fiery dart of hate strikes the unprotected heart of righteousness. It is in this moment when the realization of sin, supplication and redemption become a single expression.

How it fits into contest

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
While this work, Supplication and Redemption, may well have started in Proverbs 4:23 with righteousness flowing from the heart, it quickly moved into Ephesians 6:10-11 where the warrior does not stand firm against the strategies of the devil at this dark time in our history.
Here the warrior loses her focus and fails to hold up the Shield of Faith against the fiery darts of the enemy, resulting in a hit to the heart of the Armor of Righteousness allowing words of corruption to fall from her lips(Ephesians 6:12-16).
It is at that very moment of corruption that the warrior comes to the realization of her sins and prays with all perseverance and supplication in the Spirit(Ephesians 6:18-20).
Finally, Redemption is found through the Blood of Jesus.
