Artist bio

My name is Britny Fernandes. I have been making art as early as 1st grade. Is is a true passion and way of life for me. I am very social and outgoing just like my artwork. My favorite part of being a visual artist is seeing my viewers reactions and feelings towards my work. If it gets them talking and interacting with it then I know I have done my job. I am easily inspired by everything in life. I can envision hundreds of ideas from one interaction. Art is deeply rooted in my veins, it is a huge part of who I am and who I will become.

Artist Statement

This piece represents something or someone that a person looks up to. Such as a role model, a God, a muse. It may also represent yourself and your growth or who you envision yourself Becoming. It also represents having faith in your leader trusting they will lead you down the right path. I made this piece with a variety of mixed media such as, bottle caps, wrapping paper, ribbons, gift bags, and rhinestones. I wanted this piece to be as dazzling as possible like a church mosaic. This is a great example of the type of work I like to create. Very crafty, spontaneous and a bit of everything.

How it fits into contest

This artwork fits into the spiritual battle found in Ephesians 6:10-20 by illustrating a mighty being that one looks up to, trusting them to show you the way. To prepare you for what is coming and giving you the tools you need to be successful against any battle that tries to take you down, ruin or diminish you. The bigger seahorse represents the higher being we look up to. The smaller seahorse represents people looking for something to worship. No matter how small we are we can become something greater through the guidance of a mighty being.
