Artist Statement

The Inspiration for this movie came from my own testimony, before Accepted Jesus Christ in my life I used to struggle with mental health issues and I attempted to commit suicide but I was afraid. I was raised in a Christian home but me talk health wasn’t a topic to talk about so ever since I dedicate my art to talk about mental health issues and how faith is a part of the healing process and God can help us through any situations in life.

When I saw the contest I decided to write down my idea on my iPhone notes it came really quickly because the Ephesians 6 is a chapter that I found really inspiring. I immediately knew that I wanted to talk about depression because it’s an invisible fight that many people ignore and get defeated because they don’t have the tools and the knowledge about the spiritual realm.

Next step i couldn’t find anybody available to help me during this project because of the quarantine so I decided to do it all by myself I filmed with my iPhone 11 using the 4K for a better quality and a tripod and that’s it I played with lightning and I used the space in my house. It took me approximately 3 hours because I was by myself so I got to make sure everything was well done.

And I edited everything from my phone using and editing app.
It’s my second experience in making a short film By myself and I’m willing to learn and to produce more film for the Glory of God.

How it fits into contest

This work fit the topic of The Spiritual Battle on Ephesians 6 :10-20 because the character of my movie is fighting an invisible battle against depression. At first she’s overwhelmed because she don’t have the knowledge about what’s going on in her life, she thoughts it was normal and she that needed to deal with it. But in Ephesians 6:12 « For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. » we understand that the fight isn’t against someone of something visible but against powers, spiritual forces of Evil in the spiritual realm and when she’s discovered it, then she decided to fight against it but not with her physical strength but with the spiritual tools « the armor of God » when she acknowledged that the battle isn’t physical and that she can’t do anything without God, she retrieved her identity and she defeated depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts.

Transcript / Lyrics

Let there be light is a film about a woman who’s struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, she used to hide it but the pain became unbearable she hears voices in her head which are telling her that she’s not enough, she should kill herself and the pain would go away. But deep down she knows that she wants to live, she’s just exhausted and lonely. She found the strength to ask God if he can send her a sigh that He is here and as she’s about to get drunk because it’s how she used to handle the pain, she turns the TV on and saw someone preaching about loneliness and God’s love it kept her attention, she was touched and then she decided to pray and surrender herself to God. She asked Jesus to deliver her from depression... He did it and he led her to his word and while she was reading she proclaimed his word and reclaimed God’s promises for her life. She found Joy again and started to dance and celebrate her God and the fact that she retrieved her true identity. She went outside for a run something she couldn’t do before because she was too depressed to go outside. She’s running as a sign of freedom and the she’s studying the Bible to remain fully protected by the shield of faith.
