Artist bio

For as long as I can remember, I have tried to live up to the name my mother gave me: Phelan Douglas. Roughly translated, this means "Wolf of the Light." She said she knew from the time I was born that I would shine a light in this world. That may sound like hubris, but I assure you it is not. I am simply a man trying to be every bit the man I was told I could be. The state of our country has brought out a passion within me that has been waiting for an audition. I have long been for the underdog, hoping to help others in small, nearly invisible ways. However, I believe that each of us most be, and do, more. I am finding my voice, and more importantly, I am striving to give voice to others. There are many ways to do this. For me, I tend to communicate through the lens and the sword of a pen. Pictures and words are invaluable in the search for finding and sharing truth. In addition to my desire to understand politics and people and to bring about a fair and just society, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. For me, this is more than a statement, bigger than being a member of a club. My spirituality informs many of my decisions and beliefs. Chief among those beliefs are the importance of free, God-given agency and the right to pursue happiness, no matter who you are and what you do or do not believe. Perhaps this is a bit outside the box of what most might include in an introduction, but I have never been a fan of boxes. I am a person passionate about art, about fairness, about justice, about faith. Family is everything to me. Humanity is in need of champions, and all of us have that ability. It is important to me that all of my interactions with others are honest and forthcoming, mixed with compassion and humor. I am many things, but at the end of the day, I am a man in tune with my beliefs, close to my family and God, and a capturer of memories and moments.

How it fits into contest

I firmly believe the climate crisis is the foretold end of the world and the collective action of humanity to face it is how we prepare the world for Christ’s coming.
Like Christ, we’re supposed to stand with the poor and meek. We’re supposed to be Good Stewards of this earth He created for us. And, we’re failing. The climate crisis is the culmination of our failure, and our response to it has eternal consequences/
