Artist bio

My work tends to focus on the social, political, cultural, and spiritual construct of society, as well as the beauty within nature. My mixed media pieces are created using acrylics, graphite, and collage. However I am open to experimenting with other media such as charcoal, watercolours, oils, photo transfers, and fabrics. Initially, my subject matter only involved birds and flowers of varying kinds, but my interest has progressed to showcase societal experiences, and the myriad of emotions associated with it. Therefore, my artwork seeks to capture the emotions of not only those that I paint, but also that of the audience who views my work. Generally, as a self-taught artist, my inspiration comes from everywhere and everything. I love to see persons enjoy my creations, and continuously give God thanks for the talent that I have been blessed with.

Wrapped in the Word

Artist Statement

This mixed media piece was created with acrylic paint and black micron pen on canvas. The battleground for the mind takes place within the spiritual realm, which is depicted by the galaxy feature. The ongoing nature of spiritual warfare is represented by the fiery darts that constantly form to attack the children of God. But, Isaiah 54:17 states that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against us in judgment we shall condemn, for this is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord. The woman shown, stands resolute because she has confidence in the promises of God. She is wrapped in the pure and holy word of God, which is her armour. The red surrounding the scriptures, is symbolic of the crimson stream of the Blood of Jesus Christ. Being surrounded by the Word and the Blood of Christ, she is comforted. With this blessed assurance, she watches the plans of the enemy become dismantled, as shown by the broken fiery darts.

How it fits into contest

When we’re wrapped in the pure and undiluted Word of God, there is no need to fear, because when we know God’s Word, we know God, (St. John 1:1). We know that His Word is true and His promises are sure. During the temptation of Jesus in Matthew 4:3-10, Jesus said “it is written” three times. He showed us how important the Word is in battling spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 acknowledges that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world”. So when the enemy comes in like a flood, and we are attacked by the arrows of spiritual wickedness, temptation, and the many challenges of this life, there is no need to worry or fear. God’s Word is not only defensive in its combat tactics, but is also a weapon that is “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword”, (Hebrew 4:12). Once we armour ourselves in the righteousness, power and authority of God’s Word, then we indeed shall be called “more than conquerors”, (Romans 8:37) will be able to stand the evil day (Ephesians 6:13).
