Jada Muschamp

Artist bio

My name is Jada Muschamp, I am Jamaican and still live there currently. I graduated University in 2019 and have a Bsc. in Culinary Arts Management and work in the restaurant industry. I am 22 years old and I started off doing art in grade 5 with drawing and started painting in 10th grade. I enjoy surrealism and expressionism art styles, but I do explore different styles to see what else I might enjoy. Painting has been a on and off hobby of mine for 6 years. I have been looking for a reason to start back and this contest really inspired to do so. I was in one small art contest before this and came second even though I was scared to submit my work. I'm anxious about showcasing my work, but I've been trying to improve myself spirtually and put the talents God gave me out there

Firm in Faith

Artist Statement

The name is based on the general concept found throughout the verses that we must arm ourselves and stand firm, whilst still putting our whole faith in the Lord.
I usually use alot of symbolism in my paintings and I wanted this to be a bit more literal so that whoever sees it could immediately understand the message.
I wanted to use pieces of the related verses because some of them really spoke to me, while focusing on Ephesians 6:10-20.

How it fits into contest

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 and Ephesians 6:12 tells us we may be of flesh but we are in a spiritual war in the heavenly realms, which I used to inspire my usage of a more symbolic painting taking place outside of Earth’s realm. The armored individual is representative of each us in the spiritual battle gear mentioned in Ephesians 6:11, 14-17. Based on Psalm 91:1-6 I used the bible to represent the shelter mentioned in the verse because this were we find Gods word that will comfort us. The wing covering the knight is taken from this verse as well, the verse shows the Lord is our refuge and his wing is our shield. We need not fear arrows, which I used flaming arrows in the painting to help depict.
Rev 12:7-9 speaks of the dragon being hurled down to earth and how he tries to lead us astray. I try to depict this using the dragons tail wrapped around earth and the darkness surrounding the planet. Job 2:2 and 1 John 5:19, respectively, tells us the devil roams this world and it is under the control of the evil one. That is why the knight is kneeling on a piece of land that has separated him from the earth (see the hole in the earth) and himself in Gods armor.
Despite the flaming arrows and fire and darkness from the dragon, the knight stays faithful to God (Ephesians 6:10), putting on his armor and allowing God to take over and protect him against evil. He is kneeling to represent prayer (Ephesians 6:18) as he is surrounded by the spirit of the word coming from the bible and an angel with trumpet in hand to signify his victory through Jesus Christ.
